- Who am I? Currently I am the president of the UMM at Perritte UMC, and previously I have held leadership positions within the Texas Conference and GCUMM.
- How is this different than our UMM group? I talked to many churches when I was District and Conference President. My UMM approach was selling the local church a selection of programs supported by the GCUMM. In most cases that worked well, but often it did not sustain unless there was a great deal of leadership and initiative from the church. The new training I have received is much more listening than selling. There is also a much higher level of participation by the local church. This program addresses all the men of your church, not just those who attend monthly meetings of UMM.
- What is the first step? Email me your interest and your questions.
- What are the next steps? Next you need to identify a man who has agreed to lead the men's ministry in your church. Once he is identified, you as the pastor and the leader need to select 2 t 4 other men who will form the men's ministry leadership team.
- Next contact me and I will get each of you a book to read. As the pastor, you will have a different book, by the same author of the book the laymen will read. These books come from years of research documenting the characterisics and practices of churches with sustained successful men's ministry experience. All the books have been carefully read and have the approval of the GCUMM. They all come from Man in the Mirror Ministries.
- While you and the team are reading the books, the men of your church will take a survey online. The results of this survey will be used in planning for the needs of the church. They will be compared to national results and will be used as the baseline when the survey is repeated much later in the process.
- When the books are read and the survey underway, I will conduct 12 hours of training for you and your men's team. That can be arranged in a format that matches your team's needs and schedule. What would be best is if there were several churches in your area that were on the same schedule so I could train 4 or 5 churches at the same time.
- By the end of that training, a concrete plan for the next several months/years will be in place. As your team executes those plans I will meet with your team in person and electronically to guide your church through the process.
- The cost for this is the cost of the books and training materials (about $30 per person) and if possible, some donatin to cover my travel expenses. That cost is about 1/10th the cost of the Man in the Mirror, "No Man Left Behind Training".
- I believe that this men's ministry model will revive the United Methodiat Church.
