 Latest Updates:

Meeting on November 30, the delegation of the Texas Annual Conference has voted to endorse the Traditional plan, with the acknowledgement that the plan will need to be amended to meet the recent decision of the Judicial Council, as the best “way forward” for The United Methodist Church when its General Conference meets in February 2019. The motion received affirmative votes from 15 of those who were present and voting, with 8 opposed and 2 abstaining. Along with expressing its support for the Traditional Plan, the delegation heard from Bishop Jones and had considerable conversation as to the viability and advisability of each of the three plans which have been submitted by the Commission on the Way Forward. The group also looked at the fifty other petitions which appear in the Advance Daily Christian Advocate, discussing how the General Conference Committee on Reference should determine which are “in harmony” with the purpose of the called session. With 18 members (half clergy and half lay) the Texas Conference Delegation will join Florida as the third largest group from the United States (after Virginia and Western North Carolina), and fifth largest overall (including Cote d’Ivoire and North Katanga) at the called special session of 864 delegates in St. Louis. The 18 voting members from Texas will be joined by at least nine of the reserve or jurisdictional delegates, and several from the conference who will serve as marshals and pages at the event.
